*Kapelle Dorotheenstädtischer Friedhof II
Liesenstraße 9 13355 Berlin
Doors: 19:30 Concert: 20:00
The concert “Threads and Traces,” held in the chapel constructed from Otto Bartning’s 1950/51 design, evolves from and around Steffi Weismann’s “on the fly” sound performance using a microphone-equipped cardboard box with long cords, further expanded by two violins and a cello. The performers alternate between the strings stretched throughout the space and their traditional instruments, subtly exploring the boundary between conventional concert and participatory performance.

Reclaiming Cemetery Spaces Through Music
Cemeteries have evolved beyond their original function into sanctuaries for rest, reflection, and relief from urban life. With support from the Evangelischer Friedhofsverband Berlin Mitte, the Cemetery Chapels Concerts series activates these sites for shared cultural use. Rooted in remembrance and community, the chapels become spaces for collective experience through improvised music. Each concert responds to the site’s atmosphere, inviting participation and fostering connection in the present moment.
