Zeynep Ayşe Hatipoğlu and Fulya Uçanok are both performers, improvisors, composers and artist researchers. Both began with a conservatory education, and later set-off to explore contemporary, experimental and non-conventional sound worlds. Their paths crossed in 2016 at Istanbul. We are Zeynep Ayşe Hatipoğlu on cello and vocals and Melih Sarıgöl on modular synthesizer. Our duo was founded in Berlin in 2025. Our musical paths had previously crossed in Istanbul, where we both studied music and sound art at the same institution. (Istanbul Technical University – Center for Advanced Music Studies (İTÜ MİAM)) Our duo’s music explores electroacoustic improvisation. We are interested in the reproduction of sounds, the interplay between musical genres, and the playful perspective of control and non-control of sound. In this regard, Melih expands his instrument with live processing tools, while Ayşe integrates Turkish makam music. In addition to our duo project, we also organize an electroacoustic concert series, na-mute-na, which establishes a connection between our shared background and our current home in Berlin. SAVT is an improvisation trio (Tanbur- Merve Salgar, Cello-Z. Ayse Hatipoglu, Classical Kemence- Elif Canfeza Gündüz) based in Istanbul and Strasbourg, Berlin. Since their foundation in 2015 in Istanbul, the trio has formed a repertoire bringing together improvisation and contemporary written music. Consisting of tanbur, classical kemençe, and violoncello, SAVT seeks new ways to create a unique musical language that expands the taksim tradition and encourage new music composition for traditional instruments. The duo released their debut album in 2018, “Birinci Hane”. The SAVT trio is among the first ensembles in Turkey to engage in free improvisation with traditional Ottoman/Turkish instruments. Their debut album was released by AK Müzik in Istanbul, and the group was featured in “Sound Dreams of Istanbul”, a documentary film about the improvisational music scene in Istanbul, directed by Anıl Eraslan.// Bandcamp

Klank.ist ensemble is a meeting spot for improviser/composers since 2019. Participants experience creative processes that ranges from improvisation to individual composition, with different weights of decision-making through collective production frameworks such as semi-planned improvisation, comprovisation, open form and free improvisation. Common principles such as transformativity of the process, re-negotiating hierarchy, aesthetic flexibility and diversity, openness to interdisciplinary collaborations aims both continuity and outward interactivity.
