The Bonding Sounds Concert Series brought together sixteen improvisers from Berlin’s music scene and international Turkish musicians. The concerts, spanning two weekends on October 2024 10, 11, 17, and 18, took place at two Berlin venues and were free of charge. The series was hosted at Alte Feuerwache Projektraum in Friedrichshain and the Humboldt Forum Ethnological Museum. Featuring twelve experimental performances, it presented a meeting of traditional instruments and electronics, highlighting the musicians’ diverse approaches to improvisation. On October 10 at Alte Feuerwache Projektraum, the evening opened with a duo performance by Korhan Erel (electronics) and Elif Canfeza Gündüz (classical kemenche), followed by a second duo featuring Ufuk Elik (bağlama) and Zeynep Ayşe Hatipoğlu (cello). On October 11, the venue hosted a duo set by Melis Çom (harp) and Mikail Yakut (accordion), alongside Ruşen Can Acet (kabak kemane) and Nick Dunston (double bass). The series explored musical collaboration dynamics through graphic scores and experimental improvisation by reinterpreting musical traditions, embodying ‘oneness with others’ as a state of creative synchronization. The concerts continued on October 17 at the Humboldt Forum Ethnological Museum, Klangwerkstatt, with a performance by Anıl Eraslan (cello) and Taner Akyol (bağlama), followed by Ulrike Ruf (cello) and Michael Thieke (clarinet). The final day, October 18, presented two duo sets: Merve Salgar (tanbur) with Gizem Oruç (electro bağlama and electronics), and Marina Cyrino (amplified flutes) with Fulya Uçanok (electronics and objects). Each evening, after the duos, the four artists performed a collective improvisation. The Bonding Sounds Concert Series emphasized an aural bonding experience, with many of the musicians performing together for the first time.
The concert series is funded by Musikfonds E.V. and held in cooperation with the Humboldt Forum Ethnological Museum and Alte Feuerwache Friedrichshain and media collaboration with Digital Berlin.
