“Let’s call it a date” is an interdisciplinary collaboration between Zeynep Ayşe Hatipoğlu, Gizem Oruç and Mariia Mytrofanova combining contemporary music and performance practices.
The sounds and actions focus on an experimental blend of cello, bağlama and electronics that involves the audience in a disturbing process of preparing for a violent experience.
What would a date look like if the outcome was predetermined to be violent? What would a date look like if you knew it in advance?
Through a series of intense, symbolic acts of movement the performance seeks to shift the timeline and reveal the brutal chaos of rape and the normalized pain of the female body. With a daring and confrontational approach “Let’s call it a date” aims to provoke a conversation about the pervasive issue of sexual violence.
